Patient-focused spirometry
The SpiroSphere and iSpiro app are trustworthy and easy-to-use healthcare devices and apps to empower patients to obtain reliable data on their lung function.
Client: ERT

For US medical technology supplier ERT, Pilotfish employed a user-centered development process—from interviews to testing intermediary solutions with end users—to ensure that the lung function testing device SpiroSphere would improve the experience for all parties involved.
We also created a patient-facing app to combine with the device. The app reminds patients to test their health condition in time. The app displays forced vital categories data coming from an external sensor on the SpiroSphere and provides feedback about the quality of the data on the patients.

There were several focus points for the UI design – it needed to be simple and accessible, safe and convenient for patients to handle, and functional for easy self-declaration of the functions and controls.
We also met with patients for user feedback and identified issues through observation and interviews.
During the development process, we explored multiple hardware formats as well as aesthetically different models and interactive prototypes to test the most effective options for doctors

User-friendly and accurate data collection
SpiroSphere provides a less intimidating procedure for spirometry patients, and for doctors, it enhances the overall experience of spirometry testing through its intuitive interface and streamlined workflows. The system highlights only essential information and reduces complexity by using the latest sensor technologies and interaction possibilities of multi-touch displays. It also eliminates the need for a desktop computer, as it automatically and wirelessly syncs the data from the tests.
